There are a total of 12 countries in South America. I have been to 8-ish. Michele has been to 0. I felt it was too dangerous for her to accompany me. In fact, I thought I was being kidnapped in Bogota, Columbia. The people chasing turned out to be two old woman trying to sell me a handmade table-cloth. So, she could have probably come. Also, I say 8-ish because I kind of feel guilty about counting Ecuador. I only switched planes at the airport. And in Lima, Peru, while I did go through customs, it was just to get an Inca Kola. But technically, it kind of counts.
Here’s where I went:
- Argentina
- Buenos Aires
- Brazil
- Rio
- San Paolo
- Chile
- Santiago
- Colombia
- Bogota
- Ecuador
- Quito Airport
- Peru
- Uruguay
- Montevideo
- Venezuela
- Caracas
The best thing about traveling to South America is that you stay in the same time zone. So even if your flight to Chile is 12 hours, if you depart at night, you arrive in the morning with no jet lag. I don’t think I would want a redo on Peru, I’m content with the Inca Kola in Lima and I don’t think Machu Picchu is calling me. As for Ecuador, that seems like a trip better suited for evolutionary scientists or very wealthy people who have a ”cross it off the list,’ list that they won’t admit to having.
